The forklift is a material handling device utilized to lift and move loads from one place to another. Each part of a forklift has a specific function. Various parts can be used to move the load vertically or horizontally.
Mast
The forklift mast refers to all the components which lift and lower the load. There are different types of masts for raising loads to various heights: triplex, quad, simplex and duplex.
Power Supply
Forklifts have four various ways of being powered: electric, gas, diesel and propane. The battery is located within the cab under the seat. The propane tank is situated on the back of the truck. The fuel tank on gas and diesel forklifts is underneath the rear of the truck.
Cab
The forklift cab is located in the center of the truck. This is where the operator sits and accesses all the informational gauges and controls. The steering wheel, gas pedal, lifting controls, tilting controls and brake are all situated inside the cab.
Frame
Carrying all the biggest forklift parts is the frame of the truck. This consists of the counterweights located at the back which prevents the truck from tipping over when loaded. The frame consists of the overhead guard that protects the operator. The undercarriage holds the axles, wheels and driveshaft.
