Warehouse Forklift Maintenance
Having a proper maintenance program for forklifts would help to increase the lifespan of the machine and is also a critical factor to the safe use of the machine. Completing regular forklift inspections and performing preventive maintenance on a regular basis will help to guarantee the efficient and safe use of the equipment.
Daily Checklist
The daily checklist is an important tool in any forklift maintenance program. These checklists will help to document any and all potential problems. They are required by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration or the OSHA. The daily checklists could also be audited by OSHA during any routine inspection. Drivers are required to complete the inspection from the start of their shift. If any major issues are found, the forklift could not be used until the problem has been fixed.
Maintenance and Safety Go Hand-in-Hand
In the United States, there are about 100 deaths related to forklift accidents and statistic show that nearly 20,000 people are seriously injured too. This number represents 54 individuals per day, 7 days a week, for the whole year. A lot of these accidents could be easily prevented if the forklift had been properly serviced and maintained. In some circumstances, it might seem like a cost savings to skip or delay routine maintenance, however, these savings will pale in comparison to the cost of a single accident.
Items to be Serviced
In the owner's guidebook of each and every machinery, the manufacturer will include a maintenance schedule. These schedules would differ greatly, depending on the manufacturer and the kind of equipment. Every schedule would contain various basic things. Like for instance, in a combustion engine, the oil filters and the engine oil must be periodically replaced. Hydraulic levels would have to be checked too. Be certain to check hoses for any indications of cracking. Other things include the transmission, the electrical systems and the brakes of the forklift.
