History
During 1919, Salzgitter Maschinenbau AG was started. The company was founded by Anton Raky, an engineer and pioneer in oil drilling and modern drilling technology. The initial company name was Anton Raky, Tiefbohrungen in Salzgitter.
During the year 1937, the cornerstone for SMAG was laid when the manufacturing facility was purchased by the Salzgitter Group for constructing drilling machinery. During 1986, the company acquired the grab product division from Peiner AG. Immediately after, Peiner was developed into a global brand name in the succeeding years. Currently, SMAG is the market leader in the globe, using grabs for global cargo handling applications, agriculture and waste disposal.
